On April 18, 2023, the Memphis music community gathered at Handy Park to honor the late Omar Higgins with a Brass Note on Beale Street. Higgins, known for his dynamic bass playing and leadership in the bands Chinese Connection Dub Embassy and Negro Terror, left a significant impact on the local music scene. The event, marked by a celebration concert, featured a diverse lineup of musicians and genres, reflecting Higgins' influence and the multitude of artists and fans he touched.

Kween Jasira, Danny Cosby, SvmDvde, PreauXX, Moses Crouch, Ryan Peel, Tonya Dyson, and others joined the Chinese Connection Dub Embassy house band, each performing a song to pay tribute to Higgins. Omar's brothers, Joseph and David, have continued his legacy by leading Chinese Connection Dub Embassy and planning to revive Negro Terror.

The Beale Street Brass Notes Walk of Fame, which started in 1986, honors over 180 artists and music industry figures, and Higgins' inclusion marks a significant recognition for his contributions to the punk rock and reggae scenes in Memphis. Omar's Brass Note, the 192nd to be dedicated, will be placed in front of The New Daisy Theatre in the coming months.

During the event, performances by Tonya Renee Dyson, Tia Henderson, and Chinese Connection Dub Embassy captivated the crowd of over 150 people. Omar's innovative spirit and community engagement were highlighted as key reasons for his nomination and subsequent honor.

David Higgins shared the importance of the day, emphasizing Omar's selfless nature and commitment to uplifting others through music. The dedication of the Brass Note not only commemorates Omar's artistic achievements but also serves as a lasting tribute to his profound impact on the Memphis arts community and his enduring legacy in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans.
